“Lost” is the Gaming Board’s net terminal income: cash put into the machines minus cash paid back out. What the numbers mean.

What the numbers mean
The Gaming Board reports several dollar figures for every location. They measure different things, and the biggest one is not money anyone lost. Here is the county’s biggest location, Lenny’s Gas N Wash in Bourbonnais, for 2025:
| Gaming Board column | Plain words | Lenny’s, 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Amount played | Every bet made, counting winnings bet again. The same dollar can be played many times. | $20,742,951 |
| Amount won | What the machines paid back as wins | $18,803,377 |
| Funds in | Cash and tickets put into the machines | $7,792,897 |
| Funds out | Tickets paid back out to players | $5,853,266 |
| Net terminal income | Funds in minus funds out: what players lost and the machines took in. This site calls it “lost.” | $1,939,631 |
| NTI tax (35%) | 30 points to the state, 5 points to the town or county | $678,872 $580,345 state, $98,526 Bourbonnais |
| What is left (65%) | Split by private contract between the location and the terminal operator that owns the machines. The Gaming Board does not publish the split. | $1,260,759 |
The tax was 30% of net terminal income until mid-2019, then 33%, then 34% from July 2020, and 35% since July 2024. The local 5% has not changed. Per-resident figures say where money is lost, not who loses it: the Gaming Board does not record where players live.
